The European Palestinian Credit Guarantee Fund (EPCGF) supports SME lending in Gaza

In early November, Mr. Hanna Sahhar, General Manager, conducted an 18 hour training program in Gaza on SME credit Analysis. The training was accredited by the Arab Academy for Banking and Financial Sciences (AABFS) using revised updated material and outline of the AABFS.  The fourteen participants in the training program were Loan officers mainly at the branch level and came from different areas in Gaza such as Khan Younis, Rafah and Gaza city.

The training focused on constructing financial statements for SMEs, conducting cash flows and analyzing financial information in order to reach a credit conclusion without having to burden borrowers with hefty collateral requirements. The program is part of a series of training modules conducted through EPCGF to create specialized SME loan officers to cater for the growing need of financing SMEs in Palestine.

At the end of the training, certifications were handed to the fourteen participants who successfully completed the program.

EPCGF has more than 35 SME loan guarantees approved through partner banks to businesses in Gaza. These business ranges from services such as kindergarten to trade and retail stores. The average loan size in Gaza is USD 45 thousands and repayment remains high.
